Matthew Tkachuk and Jonathan Huberdeau had the best years of their career this past season.

And now they're changing places in an NHL blockbuster.

Tkachuk was traded to the Florida Panthers on Friday night, with Huberdeau part of the haul going to the Calgary Flames for the power forward. Florida also sent defenseman MacKenzie Weegar, prospect Cole Schwindt and a lottery-protected first-round selection in the 2025 NHL draft.

New Jersey Devils general manager Tom Fitzgerald, in a free agency news conference announcing several acquisitions on Friday, told reporters he was still in the market for a veteran defenseman.

On Saturday, he cashed in on that quest, dealing a 2023 third-round draft choice along with Ty Smith to the Pittsburgh Penguins for John Marino.

The Devils are sending their second-round draft pick (37th overall) and their third-rounder (70th overall) to the Capitals for the 26-year-old restricted free agent and the Capitals' second-round selection (46th overall, originally from Winnipeg).

The Carolina Hurricanes traded defenseman Tony DeAngelo and a 2022 seventh-round draft pick to Philadelphia for a fourth-round pick (101st overall) in 2022, third round pick in 2023 (the lowest of Philadelphia's three picks) and a second-round choice in 2024.

The Montreal Canadiens acquired 21-year-old Chicago Blackhawks center Kirby Dach in an NHL draft night shocker, earning a loud reaction from the home fans inside Bell Centre on Thursday night.

The transaction was the result of two trades. Montreal sent defenseman Alexander Romanov and the 98th overall pick to the New York Islanders for the 13th overall pick in the first round. They then flipped the No. 13 pick and the 66th overall pick to the Blackhawks for Dach, who was the third overall selection in the 2019 draft and a restricted free agent.
